Does that title sound like I am excited that the holidays are over? Well, I am…a little. I am craving a normal schedule once again because I have seen what that does for a 13 month old. It makes her happy…much like this photo to the right.
Things have been going great. Jen has become the sleep drill sergeant thanks to a book called “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child“. Wow, what an amazing change we have seen since Halle has been on a semi-regular sleep schedule. Jen is also much happier…and not so crazy…shhh…don’t tell her I said that.
We travelled to Chicago to spend Christmas with Jen’s side of the family. Her brother and his family drove up from Atlanta to meet Halle for the first time which was awesome. Halle did great in the car for the total of 14 hours of winter driving. She discovered the Wiggles thanks to a genius at my office who recommended them for trance-inducing travel entertainment. She was right, Halle loved it. She actually danced in her car seat….I’m not sure how, but she pulled it off and looked good doing it. Halle loves to dance. I can just give her a little techo beat (she loves The Crystal Method) and she shakes it like a Polaroid picture.
I have been taking photos and video, but haven’t had a lot of time to compile much. I did add some photos to the Grab Bag album on our web site, so check ‘em out!
Adorable photo of Halle! I’m with you – so glad to return to normal post-holidays. We, too, experienced the sleep deprivation that comes with an abnormal routine. It’s rough.
Great update – I’ve been wondering how things were going! We used that same book for S & K. It is brilliant. Happy new year!
Happy New Year! Loved the pictures sorry I missed out on the big family dinner…I guess if I’d been there it would have been at my house and I would have been cooking so maybe I don’t?? JK…My favorite picture from the grab bag…was you and Jake/Jen and Jake on your LK Superior outing….enjoyed all…..
Oh My Gosh!! ! What a very happy little girl you have!! I could not help but laugh when I saw it because laughter is contageous. I am so happy that you are back in a routine and that everyone is back to getting a full night’s sleep. I love you guys and can’t wait to get there on the 20th despite the fact that my poor desert thin blood will suffer – I know that it will be worth every single shiver!!!!!
Hi Clay! I’ve been lurking on your blog for a while now. Halle is beautiful and I’m so happy for you all. I just wanted to chime in because “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child” changed our lives – seriously. I’m so glad we found it when we had our first child. Unfortunately, we didn’t find it until he was 15 months old, but all of our babies since then have been great sleepers. Well-rested babies really are happier!
Great to hear from you Gretchen! Ya, that book rocks…or at least Jen tells me so.
Last night she slept for 13 hours and was in a great mood this morning. Amazing!
Those are adorable pictures of her and Paula’s kids, love the PJ’s picture, nice to have another girl, Poor Jake!!!I am sure he is loving his little sister, but surrounded by girls now!!!Have a great New Year!!!
Happy New Year Johnston’s! great pictures! Especially love the one of Halle in the laundry basket. My laundry sure isn’t that cute.
I’ve been meaning to post a comment here for days & days.
It was so great meeting you all last weekend. We truly enjoyed it. Halle is so adorable. So fun to see D & Halle toddling around together. Sigh…cute.
I also have that book on my nightstand. I’ve read some of it…but need to dig into it more. Sometimes I have a choice between reading about sleep or actually just getting some sleep…and the latter usually wins out. D is a pretty good sleeper…could be better…I just don’t think he is a 13 hr sleeper. He gets about 10.5 – 11 hrs of sleep at night, sometimes with one brief waking. Two naps.
Thanks Janet! It was great meeting you guys too! Once it gets a bit warmer out we will have to venture outdoors with the two little lovebirds. I can’t believe 30 degrees coming this week seems tropical!
That’s one thing that Amy and I discovered, then found the book later: Sleep begets Sleep. The more sleep they get, the more they sleep.
